James (Jim) R. Hansen Jr.

Owner / Manager

Jim has served the families of Genesee and Lapeer Counties for over four decades. He attended St. John Catholic School and later graduated from Davison High School in 1971. He continued his education attending Mott Community College with Associate of Science Degree and graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1978, he was granted his license to practice Mortuary Science in 1979.

He started his journey in funeral service while in High School being employed by Raysin Funeral Home as an EMT and funeral staff member. Upon graduation from Mortuary College he returned to the area and was employed by Baird-Newton Funeral Homes of Lapeer and Columbiaville, and resided in Columbiaville during his employment. He later returned to the Davison Community and Raysin Funeral Home. In January of 1996 He and his late wife Karla opened the Hansen Funeral Home and Hansen EMS to serve the families of the area in Downtown Davison.

Jim’s involvement and community support spans over forty years of service. Jim received his EMT License in the early seventy’s when the State of Michigan started the program and continued his license, until he closed his EMS Division in 2005. He is a former member of Columbiaville Rotary Club and served on the Columbiaville Fire Dept. He was a member and past president of Davison Rotary, and a former member and past president Davison Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Davison City Council and several boards including the Davison Senior Center, and the former Davison Area Parks and Recreation. He is a member of the Davison Eagles, and member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and has served on several church committees including over twenty years on St. John Cemetery Board. Professionally Jim is a member of the Academy of Professional Funeral Service, and Michigan Funeral Directors Association. He led his staff to three national awards by the National Funeral Directors Association, and served on the Board of Directors of MFDA and several committees, and as District 7 officer and president for numerous years.

Jim resides in Davison with his family. He was married Karla Simmonds (Formerly of Otisville) in August of 1973, passing suddenly in April 2020. He has two daughters; Katie Hansen licensed funeral director and partner in the funeral home, Kristen Hansen staff member and owner of Main Street Family Salon in Downtown Davison, and three grandchildren attending Davison Community Schools: Kendall, Kasen, and Kaden.

Katie Hansen

Funeral Director

Katie Hansen is a licensed Funeral Director and second-generation professional at Hansen Funeral Home in Davison. Following in the footsteps of her father, Jim Hansen—who has served the community for over 40 years—Katie is dedicated to upholding the legacy of compassionate, family-centered care.

A 1999 graduate of Davison Community Schools, Katie earned her degree in General Studies from Mott Community College before attending the prestigious Worsham College of Mortuary Scienec in Chicago Illinois. After graduating in 2006, she earned her professional license in 2007 and returned home to serve the families of Davison alongside her father.

Deeply rooted in her hometown, Katie is an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Davison Fraternal Order of Eagles #3589. She also spent many years contributing to the growth of the area as a member of the Davison DDA committee. Above all, Katie is the proud mother of twin sons, Kaden and Kasen, with whom she resides in Davison.
