Vernon Dale Shaffer of Lapeer formerly of Davison, age 87, died Sunday July 5, 2020 at McLaren-Lapeer Regional. Private family services will be held at 11:00 am Friday July 10, 2020 at Hansen Funeral Home Groves Chapel, Downtown Davison. Pastor Mark Marillo officiating, burial will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date. Family will receive visitors from 4-8 pm Thursday at the funeral Home. Due to CDC Guidelines, social distancing and limited gathering at one time, the family understands those who may or may not want to join them and they respect their decisions. Vernon was born in Kent County, Michigan on September 11, 1932 the son of the late; James & Amy (Miller) Shaffer. Vernon spent his early years in Davison and has spent the last sixty years in the Lapeer area. Answering the call of his country Vernon proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Lapeer, and had been employed by General Motors Buick Division until his retirement.

Surviving is wife Jean, daughter Lorene (Robert) Wright, and sons: David Shaffer, and Chris Shaffer. He also leaves grandchildren: Melody (Reggie) Norvell, Renel Cross, Perci (Laura) Currithers, and his great grandchildren; Conner, Addison, Chase and Camryn. His step-sons: Dale Sanders, David Sanders, and Bill Sanders. Also he leaves 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren of his wife's Jean who loved him very much. His surviving siblings: Miles, Ronald, Jan, Myrna, Linda, and Beth. He is preceded in death by daughter Dorene Shaffer, and siblings: Carl, Arnold, Dick, Fern, Carman, and Bert.
