Sonya K. Illig, age 80 of Davison, died Saturday May 31, 2025 at her residence, surrounded by her family. Honoring her wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 noon Monday June 2, 2025 at Hansen Funeral Home Groves Chapel, Downtown Davison. Pastor Jason Crum officiating: with private burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery. Family will receive visitors from 11:00 am Monday until time of services. Those desiring may make contributions in Sonya's memory to Davison Missionary Church or The Medical Team Hospice.

Sonya was born in West Branch, Michigan on November 5, 1944 the daughter of the late Duane Martin and Joyce Best and has resided in the Davison area for many years. She was joined in marriage to Gerald Illig on July 21, 1962 in Flint and he preceded her in death on August 31, 2011. Sonya was a graduate of Beecher High School class of 1962. Sonya loved the outdoors and especially the time spent on her northern property. She enjoyed her quiet time drawing, calligraphy, and bird watching. Her greatest passion was time spent with family and friends. She had been employed for Security Lock and Safe for twenty-five years, and spent several years working for the Aus Gres Sheep factory.

She is survived by her son Bryan and wife Debbie Illig. Her loving grandchildren: Amanda and husband Jason Stemple, and Bryan and wife Nicole Illig. She also leaves great grandchildren: Grace Stemple, Emma Stemple, Bryce Illig, Tucker Illig, and Tessa Illig. Surviving brother Rick Martin, sister Vickie Whitney, special niece Shannon Kline, and a host of extended family and friends. Besides her parents and husband she is precede in death by her father and mother in-laws: Herman and Lena Illig, and beloved companion and dog Shadow.
