Shirley Loraine Winkles, of Davison, age 91, died Wednesday April 8, 2026 at Swank Assisted Living, Swartz Creek. Honoring her wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm Friday April 17, 2026 at Hansen Funeral Home Groves Chapel, Downtown Davison, with Rev. Sarah LaRose-Nettell officiating; private inurnment in Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date. Family will receive visitors from 1:00 pm Friday until time of services. Shirley was born in Crossnore North Carolina on January 14, 1935 the daughter of the late: Grady and Roena (Thompson) Stewart and spent her early years in North Carolina. Shirley and her husband Art moved to Davison in 1963 where they lived and raised their children, in later years they enjoyed spending time in both Davison and Florida. She was joined in marriage to Arthur “Art” Winkles on June 19, 1954 in Chesterfield South Carolina and he preceded her in death on September 15, 2019. Shirley had a love of music spending numerous years singing with the Sweet Adeline’s. She also enjoyed the outdoors riding bikes or just a nice walk. Shirley in her later in life was a devoted caregiver to Art her husband in his declining years. Shirley had been employed by East Michigan Eye Care Center until her retirement in 2004.
Shirley leaves to cherish her memory; son Richard (Cathi) Winkles, loving grandchildren: Jason (Nicole) Payton, Jeff (Rylee) Payton, and Jill (Josh) Payton. She also leaves seven great grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends. Shirley is preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia “Cindy” Payton in 2006, and brother Henry Grady Stewart.
