Roy was born in Detroit Michigan on October 22, 1923 the son of the late: Alexander & Della (Gage) Dumont and had resided in Flint since 1942. He was joined in marriage to Mary E. Kuhn on January 14, 1950 and she preceded him in death on July 29, 2010. Answering the call of his country Roy proudly served in the US Army during WW II, spending the last eight months as a combat medic providing care and evacuations of the wounded during the Battle of the Bulge. Upon returning from the war Roy was hired by General Motors Buck Division where he spent the next thirty years as a loyal employee, retiring in 1980. He was an active member of Eastwood Methodist Church until the church closed in 2010; he later attended Atherton United Methodist Church. Roy was always involved in community events and organizations. He spent several years with the Boy Scout and was proud to have taken his troop to the National Jamboree for several years. Roy also spent time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity projects in both Michigan and Arizona.
Early in Roy and Mary's marriage they started research into their family history and ancestry, and Genealogy soon became a major part of their lives, in fact some of Roy's Genealogy can be found in the U of M Library. They loved to travel and in the 1960's they purchased a camping trailer which led them to 49 of the fifty states and most of the Canadian Providences, and they continued to research family ancestry. In 2007 they sold their travel trailer and settled down concentrating on their health and well being. After Mary's death in 2010 Roy's computer became his mainstay in life. He continued his genealogy and informational research on various subjects. He also followed three truckers as they traveled delivering goods to many places Roy had traveled.
Surviving is brothers: Kenneth Dumont, David Dumont, and a host of extended family and friends. He also leaves special and long time friend Howard and Sonja Melrose. He is preceded in death by sisters: Ida Harris, Betty King, Mildred Dumont, and brothers: Rolland and Sidney Dumont. Please share your condolences at www.hansenfuneralhome.net
