In Loving Memory of Maryalice Jane Petiprin
Maryalice Jane Petiprin, of Oregon Township, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday October 7, 2026. A funeral services will be held Thurday October 15, 2026 at 11:30 at Hansen Funeral Home Groves Chapel Downtown Davison, with Mr. Steve Spiecker officiating with burial to follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Family will receive visitors on Wednesday October 14, 2026 from 3:00pm-7:00pm at the funeral home.
Maryalice, lovingly known as Mary, was born in Columbiaville, Michigan, on September 2, 1950, to Frank and Evelyn Peterson. Knowing Mary meant being loved by her. She had a remarkable way of making people feel at home, and she was considered “Mom” by nearly everyone who had the privilege of crossing her path. Whether you were family, a friend, or someone she had just met, Mary had a way of taking you in as her own. And, of course, no one left her home without a full belly and, more often than not, cookies or homemade baked goods in tow. Caring for others wasn’t simply something Mary did; it was woven into the very fabric of who she was. Mary possessed a caring, boisterous spirit, paired with a take-care-of-business attitude that made her unmistakably herself. She loved deeply, spoke honestly, and made sure the people around her were cared for. She had a gift for showing up for others, especially when life was at its darkest, and she never hesitated to offer her love, her strength, or whatever was needed. When Mary wasn’t busy in the kitchen, you could find her among her flower gardens, where she was most at home. Her yard reflected her heart—full of beauty, life, and love. Visitors couldn’t help but admire the flowers surrounding her home; each garden was a testament to the care and devotion she poured into what she loved. Mary often called her garden her “church” because she felt God’s presence all around her as she worked the soil with her hands. There, among the flowers and the quiet beauty of nature, she found peace, connection, and a sense of home. Gardening wasn’t just a hobby for Mary; it was a place where her spirit could breathe and where she felt close to something greater than herself. Mary spent her life caring for others. She wanted to make sure that everyone around her was fed, loved, supported, and never felt alone. Even during the hardest of times, she worked to make sure others were okay. Her love was generous, her presence unforgettable, and her impact on the lives of those around her will endure long after her passing.
Mary leaves behind her beloved children, Mitchell (Carrie) Petiprin, Staff Sgt. Mathew Petiprin, and Monica (Kyle) Spieker; her cherished grandchildren, Lyla Petiprin, Jakob Petiprin, and Adalyn Spieker, who lovingly called her Grammy; and a host of extended family and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Michael Petiprin, and her parents, Frank and Evelyn Peterson.
Mary’s legacy lives on in the people she loved, the lives she touched, the gardens she nurtured, and the countless ways she made the world feel a little warmer and more cared for. Her love will remain in every shared recipe, every flower that blooms, every gathering around the table, and every person who remembers the woman who always made sure they had enough.
She was, and always will be, Mom.
