Mary H. Pillen

Mary Haroldalee Pillen of Swartz Creek, age 82 died Thursday August 13, 2026 at Tanglewood Assisted Living, with family at her side. Honoring her wishes cremation has taken place. A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Those desiring may make contributions in Mary’s memory to the charity of your choice.

Mary was born in Flint Michigan on May 8, 1944 the daughter of the late: Harold and Lillian (Blanche) McKinzie and had resided in the Swartz Creek area most of her life. Mary and her husband Donald were able to spend some retirement years in Florida and Tennessee. She was a graduate of Goodrich High School Class of 1962. Mary was joined in marriage to Donald Pillen on February 20, 1965 and spending over fifty-eight years together before he preceded her in death on May 22, 2023. While Mary enjoyed time at home she was always ready for a shopping trip with family and friends. She loved the challenge of the electronic age with today’s cell phones, computers, and tablets. Mary had a passion for animals and especially her loving dog “Missy Sue”.

She leaves to cherish her memory children: Scott Pillen, Mike (Robin) Pillen, and Tiffany Bray. She also leaves her loving grandchildren: Lesley Pillen, Autumn (Anthony) Messina, Ryan (Aaron) Harr, Tyler (Jennifer) Pillen, Savannah Bray, Brooklyn Bray, Trey(Daisy) Shirey, Ali (Dustin) Briggs, Carter Shirey, and great-grandchildren: AJ Messina, Alec Messina, Andrew Messina, Kipton Grabowski, Conner Briggs, Hoyt Briggs, Daniel Shirey, Mia Shirey, Nick Bennett, Jacob Bennett, and Emily Bennett. Surviving also is sister Sharon VanKuren, sister-in-law Doris Pillen, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of friends. Mary is preceded in death by sister Janet and husband Tom Baker, brother-in-laws; Robert “Bob” Pillen, and Lester VanKuren, and nieces; Karen Winget, and Candy Mersino.
