Mary Lucy Balla of Columbiaville, age 84 died Monday March 11, 2013, at Avalon Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 pm Saturday March 16, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church 6340 Roberta St. Burton. Fr. Carl Simon, Celebrant, with burial at Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive visitors from 5-8 pm Thursday and 1-4 and 6-8 pm Friday at the funeral home. A Scripture service will be held at 7:00 pm Friday night at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions in Lucy's memory to Avalon Hospice or Marathon Twp First Responders. Mary was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on November 15, 1928 the daughter of the late; Fred and Sophia (Vijil) Candelaria. She has resided in Columbiaville since 1975, spending her early years in the Burton area. Mary was joined in marriage to Ernest Balla on December 5, 1953. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Mary was an avid bowler and member of the WBC; she also enjoyed camping and sewing. Mary was also a member of the Lioness Club. Lucy had owned and operated with her husband the Columbiaville Econo Wash, and Columbiaville Game Room. Surviving are her husband of fifty-nine years Ernest, children Frederick Manuel Balla and wife Joan, Helen Rosanne Balla and husband David Jew, Tina Balla-Cyman, and Sophia Balla and husband Ron Baumgartner. Mary also had twelve grandchildren; three great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives. She is preceded in death by Sister Helen Valdez.
