Tuesday Jan 3 2012, surrounded by her family, LeAnn Elizabeth Schaffer of Mt. Morris Twp passed peacefully ending her 2+ year battle with breast cancer. She remained positive and "Always Excellent" throughout her lengthy battle just as she had throughout her entire 59 years of life. She is survived by her husband of 39 years Gregory M. Schaffer, her children Jennifer R. DuBey (Shannon), Christopher M. Schaffer (Lyzz), and Kimberly Jo Rodgers, grandsons Tristan L. Rodgers and Scott N. Rodgers, brother Dennis L. Smith (Geraldine) and sister Valorie M. Huey. She is also survived by nephews Martin E. Smith (Blaise) and Eric M. Huey (Mandy), nieces Lisa L. Williams (Steve), Rebecca M. Krupp (Don), and Amy N. Handley (Matt) as well as 6 great nieces and 6 great nephews.
While she will always be remembered as a brave fighter in her battle with cancer, LeAnn will also be remembered as someone who always placed others needs above her own. She was a 15+ year member of the Girl Scouts, a member of both the Our Savior and St. Martins church choir, as well as an active member of both churches throughout her life. LeAnn will also be remembered by many as the friendly face willing to go the extra mile to help customers at Wolcott Orchards in Mt. Morris Twp where she worked for nearly 28 years. However, to those who knew her best, she will be remembered as an avid baker many simply called 'The Bread Lady', a woman who enjoyed most things outdoors including gardening, camping, and sledding, and as 'Neighborhood Mom' because she was always willing to house, feed, and care for those who needed another place to call home for any amount of time.
For those who wish to help us celebrate the life and memory of LeAnn, a memorial service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church (6901 N. Saginaw, Flint) Saturday February 4, 2012 11am. Luncheon will follow.
