Obituary

Burden, Larry David, "Dave", age 80, of Alpena, Mich., formerly of Mt. Morris, Mich., passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019. He was born on Christmas Day, 1938 in Madisonville Kentucky to the late Fred Sr. and Grace Elizabeth (Hibbs) Burden. Dave was a proud Marine and was stationed in Camp LeJeune North Carolina from 1956-1962, earning the rank of LCPL expert rifleman in the 2 nd Marine Division. While with the Marines he traveled extensively; visiting Italy, Greece, Spain, Lebanon, Turkey, France, Egypt, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. He moved to Michigan in 1965 and later worked for Toebe Construction as Foreman and Master Cement Mason until his retirement in 1989, building many bridges and roads both locally and in the Detroit area. Dave was a kind and generous person who loved his family dearly. He was a very social person who had a quick wit and was always ready with a joke. He had a good sense of humor and always strived to keep a positive attitude in life, despite the many hardships in his early years. A born salesman, he was in his element buying and selling; some will recall when he was known as the "Beanie Baby" man in Burton in the 1990's. He especially enjoyed Southern food, flea markets, and rummage sales. Other interests included fishing, casinos and most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren who were a great source of pride and joy for him. They, in turn, adored their "papaw".

He leaves to cherish his memory; daughters Linda Genovese (David) of Presque Isle, Mich., Lisa Burden (Bonnie) of Flint and Lake Ann Mich., Jacqueline Burden of Jacksonville, Fl., beloved grandchildren Jennifer Barrett (Josh) of Brighton, Mich., Sarah Coleman (A.J.) of Roscommon Mich., and grandson T.J. Guthrie of Clio, Mich., along with great-grandchildren Jasmine, Layla and Gabe Guthrie and Olivia Coleman. Also surviving are special "granddaughter" Madolyn Kipp of Grand Blanc, sister's Judy Meatris  (Michael) of Steubenville, Ohio, Linda Willis of Henderson KY., a host of nieces and nephews, including special nephew Steve (Teresa) Cook of Columbus, OH; along with many friends made over the years. He was preceded in death by long-time companion Martha Sue Condict, father Fred Sr., mother Grace, Sisters Peggy & Joyce, brothers Fred Jr. and Jimmy and half-brothers Thomas, Lonnie, and Hallack.

The immediate family will receive extended family and friends on Wednesday Sept. 18, 2019 from 6-8 pm at Hansen Funeral Home in Davison, with funeral services at 9:00 am Thursday Sept. 19, 2019 at the funeral home. Graveside services with Military Honors will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff, nurses and aides and volunteers at Medilodge of Greenview Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Alpena Mich., and Compassus Hospice of NE Michigan. Those desiring may make contributions in Dave's name to the National Parkinson's Foundation or the American Diabetes Association. Please share your condolences at www.hansenfuneralhome.net
