Karl Edward Hawkins of Clio, age 71, died Wednesday February 25, 2015 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Monday March 2, 2015 at Messiah Lutheran Church 520 Butler St. Clio. Rev. Erik Cloeter officiating. Burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Family will receive visitors from 2-8 pm Sunday at Messiah Lutheran Church. Family will also receive visitors form 10:00 am Monday until time of services at the church. Those desiring may make contributions in Karl's memory to the Church Memorial Fund/Music Dept. Karl was born in San Francisco California on October 8, 1943 the son of the late Karl & Dorothy (Marlowe) Hawkins, and has resided in the Clio area since 1972. He was joined in marriage to Sheila Hunt on June 28, 1969 in Davison. Answering the call of his country Karl served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Church Choir and the Flint Master Singers. The great joy in Karl's life was his grandchildren. Karl was an avid woodworker and car enthusiast, but his true drive was the music he loved and performed. He had been employed by General Motors Buick Division, for over thirty-three years retiring in 2000. He leaves his wife of forty-five years Sheila, children Stephanie & Scott Martin, Christina Russell and Timothy Hawkins. Also his grandchildren: Christopher, James, Joseph, Andrew, Erik, Gabriel, and Abigail. Karl's brothers George & Diane Hawkins, Robert Hawkins, his stepmother Norma Hawkins, and a host of other relatives. He was preceded in death by sister Laura Hawkins.
