John Martin Smith of Genesee formerly of Otter Lake age 77 died Monday December 27, 2010 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday December 30, 2010 at the Hansen Funeral Home Groves Chapel, Downtown Davison. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive visitors from 6-8 pm Tuesday and 1-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society. John was born in Flushing Michigan on August 12, 1933 the son of the late Isaac & Lizzie (Anderson) Smith and had resided in the Otter Lake since 1964 spending the last several years in Genesee. He was joined in marriage to Patricia Caudell on July 9, 1966 and she preceded him in death February 17, 1996. He married Hazel Poynter on August 8, 2001. Answering the call of his country John served in the US Navy during Korean War. He was a life member of American Legion Post #151, VFW and 40 / 8, and had owned and operated John's Marathon Station in Genesee until his retirement. Surviving are wife, Hazel, sons; John Smith Jr, Fred and wife Martha Smith, and Trevor and wife Lorie Smith. Grandchildren; Scott, Sara, Anthony, Eric, Logan and Camden. Great granddaughter Kennedy. Brothers; Claude and wife Betty Smith, and Joseph Smith. Sisters; Dorothy Shiffett, Leila and husband Hank Ciak, Hazel and husband Victor Carpenter, and a host of other relatives. He is preceded in death by brothers; William"Andy", Isaac, Levi, and sisters, Ethel Petoskey, Gloria Miller
