Joan Marie (Kelts) Whitman of Davison age 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday March 1, 2026 in Florida. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 1:00 pm Saturday May 16, 2026, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church 404 Dayton St. Davison, Fr Andrew A. Czajkowski Celebrant. Family will receive visitors from 12:00 noon till time of services at the church. Those desiring may make contributions in Joan’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Joan was born in Flint Michigan on April 23, 1951 the daughter of the late: Atwood and Joan (Fortune) Kelts and has resided in Davison most of her life. She was a graduate of Davison High School Class of 1969. Joan was married to her husband of over fifty-five years, Jon Whitman on August 21, 1970. She was a source of strength, kindness, and unwavering support to everyone who knew her. She dedicated her life to her family and touched countless lives with her warmth, generosity, and beautiful spirit. Her love was constant, her guidance steady, and her presence a true blessing. While the hearts of family and friends are heavy, we are grateful for the memories she left behind; memories filled with laughter, comfort, and unconditional love.
Joan was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Davison, the Daughter of Isabella, and the Red Hats Society of Mims Florida. Joan was an avid golfer and enjoyed thrift shopping. She had a natural touch for arts and crafts, and was an expert in cake decorating. She was also a member of the “What’s Trump” card club. Her great love was spending time with her loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joan had been employed for many years at V-G Foods starting as a cashier and later in the Bakery Department where the community could enjoy her cake decorating and bakery skills.
She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by husband Jon, daughters; Tonia (Bob) Thornton, and Erica (Reggie) Whitman-Brown. Her loving grandchildren: Jarred, Devin, Taylor, Vivian, and great-grandchildren: Oakleigh, Elliott, Abby, Alice, and Gracie. Joan also leaves her siblings: Beth (Carl) Archambeau, Jack (Ginny) Kelts, Kenneth (Teresa) Kelts, Sharon (Vicki) Cushman, Judith Kelts, Michelle (Tim) Fromweller, Lori (John) Cornack, Melanie (Bill) Morey, Julie Williams, Andre Kelts, Charlene (Eric) Lundy, and numerous family and friends. She is preceded in death by brothers: Joel and Robert Kelts.
