Gynith Lucille Simmonds of Millington, age 91, died Friday August 31, 2012 at the Pines of Burton. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday Sept. 3, 2012 at the Richfield Church of the Nazarene 7524 E. Mt. Morris Rd. Rev. Gene Smith officiating with burial in Cottage Cemetery. Family will receive visitors from 12:00 – 6:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Gynith will lie in state at the Church from 10:00 am Monday until time of services. Those desiring may make contributions in her memory to Richfield Nazarene Church- Children Nursery. Gynith was born in Missouri August 11, 1921 the daughter of Otha & Alberta (Simons) Grimmett and had resided in the Millington-Otisville area most of her life. She was joined in marriage to Kenneth Simmonds and he preceded her in death in 1988. Gynith was a member of the Richfield Church of the Nazarene, and was a Sunday School Teacher for numerous years, and a member of the Senior Adult Ministries. She was avid bowler spending over fifty years on several leagues each week. Her love for cooking was enjoyed by many as a school cook and many of the church function over the years. Besides her years as a school cook, Gynith was a custodian for the Richfield Church until her retirement. She leaves to cherish her memory daughter Karen Ward, sons Jerry & wife Audrey Simmonds , and Dale & wife Janet Simmonds. Son-in -law Ed Bearup: eleven grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by daughter Marlene Bearup, son-in-law Robert "Bob" Ward, grandson Alan Simmonds, Brother Fenton Grimmett, and Sister Flo Andes.
