Obituary

Gerald Wayne "Jerry" Illig of Davison age 68 passed away Wednesday August 31, 2011 at Brian's House Hospice. A Funeral Services will be held Wednesday September 7, 2011 at 11:00am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church 404 Dayton St. Davison, Fr. Andrew Czajkowski officiating. Burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home Monday from 5-8pm and Tuesday 1-4 and 6-8pm.Mr. Illig will lie in state at the church from 10:00 am Wednesday until time of services. Jerry was born in Bay City, Michigan on November 13, 1942 the son of Herman and Lena (Frasher) Illig and resided in the Flint area most of his life, after retirement Jerry & Sonya moved to Twining, Michigan and resided there for 12 years before returning back to the area. Jerry was joined in marriage to Sonya Martin July 21, 1962 in Flint, Michigan. Answering the call of his country he served in the US Marine Corp. Jerry worked for the City of Burton Police Department before retiring in 1997 after 27 years of service. During his law enforcement career he also worked for Mt. Morris Township, Genesee Township, City of Fenton and Genesee County Parks. Gerald was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, and hunting. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 49 years Sonya; son: Bryan and wife Deborah; grandchildren: Amanda and Husband Jason Stemple, and Bryan Illig; great grandchildren: Grace and Emma Stemple, and Bryce Illig; mother: Lena Illig; brother: Herman and wife Linda Illig; sisters: Kathy and husband Boyd Bumgarder, and Karen and husband Jerry Liquia; sister in law: Vickie Whitney; brother in law: Richard and wife Karen Martin; and several nieces and nephews; special friend and fishing buddy: Marty Brock. He is preceded in death by father Herman and Brother Michael and buddy and companion and pet "Shadow". Family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Davita Dialysis Center of Davison.
