Gary James Popernek of Davison, age 75, died Saturday January 22, 2022 at his residence. Honoring his wishes cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday January 29, 2022 at Hansen Funeral Home Groves Chapel, Downtown Davison. Deacon Dan Fairweather, officiating: with inurnment at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.  Family will receive visitors from 12:00 noon Saturday until time of services at the funeral home, family is requesting masks be worn for visitation and services. Those desiring may make contributions in Gary's name to the Paradise Animal Rescue in Lapeer.

Gary was born in Cleveland Ohio on June 12, 1946 the son of the late Paul and Pearl (Hriko) Popernek, and has resided in the Davison area the last fifty-two years. He was joined in marriage to Marcia Michell on August 30, 1969 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Davison. Answering the call of his country Gary proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Gary was born to ride and was an avid Motorcyclist; he also loved the outdoors and spent numerous time fishing and hunting. He had been employed by General Motors Fischer Body Division and later Flint Metal Fabrication retiring in 1997.

He is survived by his loving wife Marcia, children; Kristen Popernek, and Margrett Popernek.  He also leaves his granddaughter Molly (Billy) Meeks, and great grandchildren: Liam, Lincoln, and Lucas. Please share your condolences at www.hansenfuneralhome.net
