Cathryne N. Diegel, age 95, died Sunday Sept. 9, 2018, at Devonshire Retirement Village, Lapeer. Honoring her wishes cremation has taken place. Private burial with her husband will be held on Tuesday September 25, 2018 at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Pastor Jan Duce of the Richfield Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Those desiring may make contributions in Cathryne's memorial to the Richfield Church of the Nazarene.

Cathryne was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 2, 1923 the daughter of the late Richard & Iva (Sourwine) Byrd and had spent most of her life in the Utica area and the last thirty-five years of retirement in the suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona. She was joined in marriage to George Louis Diegel on June 26, 1948 and he preceded her in death on June 10, 2015. Cathryne attended Wayne State University where she met George. She was an accomplished artist teaching and winning numerous awards for her paintings and china, and later teaching computer applications at Sun City West in Arizona.  Cathryne and her husband were avid golfers and enjoyed many years together on the golf course.

Surviving is daughter Nyla Diegel and husband Ron Monville, two grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by son Alyn. Please share your condolences at www.hansenfuneralhome.net
