A.J. Coon of Genesee Township age 92 died Friday January 7, 2011 at Brian's House Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday January 10, 2011 at the Genesee United Methodist Church 7190 N. Genesee Rd. Genesee. Pastor Karen Williams officiating. Burial at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. Family will receive visitors from 1-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Coon will lie in state at the church from 11; 00 am Monday until time of services. Those desiring may make contributions in A.J.'s memory to the Genesee United Methodist Church Food Pantry. A.J. was born in Flint Michigan July 5, 1918 the son of the late Clarence and Mary Ann (Grubb) Coon and had spent most of his life in the Davison-Genesee area. He was joined in marriage to Mary Howard in March of 1937 and she preceded him in death June 1995. Answering the call of his country AJ served in the US Army during WW II. He was a member of Genesee United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men's Club. He spent thirty years involved with the Boy Scouts of American and was active for thirty-five years with Dort-Oak Park Neighborhood House. Mr. Coon had been employed by General Motors AC Spark Plug Division for over thirty years retiring in 1980. Surviving are sons: Allen (Jere) Coon, Clyde (Phyllis) Coon, Alden (Laurie) Coon, Marvin (Gloria) Coon, Ralph Coon, Clifford Coon, and Kevin Coon. Daughters; Joy (Jerry) Stellard, Doris Hartwell, Jane (AJ)Deaton, Lois (David) Gates, Kathy (Dean) VanWagnen, Mary Mathews, Linda Devine, Nancy (Dennis) Kroetsch, and Phylis Coon-Maas. Forty-four grandchildren, eighty-three great grandchildren, and twenty-five great great grandchildren. Sisters: Marie Carson, and Isabelle Abrams.
